What invokes passion in you? What excites you? What are you loving right now from your favourite brands? It might be fashion related; like a particular look, fabric, colour, trend. Or it could be something like a piece of art or style of architecture – creative inspiration comes in all forms. Use your imagination to design styles that are perfect for you and/or your target market.
 
 
 
Consider the following:

  • General Style

  • Fit and Silhouette 

  • Fabric

  • Color

  • Compatibility with Accessories

 

Here's an example: if you've set out to design evening wear (go you!); consider a fabric that displays softness rather than something hard wearing, like denim.

It’s important to think about the fit and overall look you want to achieve when picking a fabric as it creates your design atheistic you want to display. Ask yourself:

  • Do you want to achieve a sheath silhouette?
  • Would you prefer a straight-cut?
  • Possibly an A-Line?
  • Are you following a specific silhouette trend?

Secure a colour wheel to create colour schemes that produce a desired artistic effect as it will help you to envisage what colours are best suited to your designs. Colour can truly bring a design to life or destroy it's x-factor so it’s important to evaluate carefully.

Clothing designs need to be compatible with accessories as fashion is about the total styling look including jewellery, shoes, belts and handbags. In fact accessories can transform your outfit from day to night giving it a totally different atheistic. When designing your collection think about what types of accessories could elevate your outfits and garments within your collection.
